I'll never understand how who he has sex with pissed everyone off so much. How does it hurt you personally? So we know everything about his personal life (which do we really, or is it just so over-sensationalized and scandalous and we don't know the real truth?) so he's terrible. We know nothing of most of the other pro golfers personal lives so therefore it's ok to root for them?
I still hold the point of view that he's a huge celebrity/sports star and it comes with the territory, i.e. next to impossible for ANYBODY to not succumb to that kind of constant temptation, and his wife knew what she was getting into. And while it was private it was ok but once it became public she had to dutifully play the scorned woman role.
I don't dislike Tiger Woods because of the skeletons that were found in his closet. In fact early on I loved watching him play and actively rooted for him to do well. It was after he found success and became such an arrogant asshat on the course and off that I started to really dislike the guy. Even then my impression was that he was a decent family man that had an arrogant professional side...until the scandal. That's when I decided he was a selfish POS that happened to have a lot of golf skill. If he shows he's changed and can be humble then I might reconsider my opinion.

There was never any doubt about his golfing greatness.
To me, however, it was this greatness that led to his downfall as a person.
I know that there are many who can dichotomize between an athlete and the person that they are, but I find it difficult to do that.
I just hope that his return to greatness is not accompanied by the arrogance he displayed before the fall.
His father led to Tiger's demise. His father was an immoral man and not what he seemed to be. There are books written about that and the press willingly suppressed who Earl was. The last years of Earl's life, his house was like a brothel. Sound familiar? As far as Tiger changing? For some reason, even though I am an adult, I wanted Tiger to be the person Nike and Tiger told us he was. I will never believe that smile again. Phenomenal golfer, yes. Golf is more exciting with him. That's about it.
dave: I guess I am not surprised that you would get shot down by simply asking if there was a way to increase participation.

BogeysBGone: ..it's what happened on the old GEA. I thought you liked the old way? Now you're complaining about that too? Just teasing you Dave.

jaime59: Shot down = providing an answer.

BogeysBGone: Just b/c you get an answer you don't like - doesn't mean it's a personal attack. Albeit personal attacks do happen sometimes.

Galgolfer: The GEA has had 3 software platforms over the last 20 years and each time it changed there was a period of adjustment but it's time to accept this site will never be the way it was. Too many people have given up the sport or just lost interest in posting.

Galgolfer: The people that started this site are doing the best they can with what they have and I appreciate that we still have a place to gather.

boomslang: Agreed GG I haven't given up. I have way too many clubs. Just don't have the time.....yet!

Galgolfer: Lots of comments about better sites for golf talk but GolfWRX is the only other "serious" golf site I know of. I created a profile over there years ago but never visited with any frequency. Then there was BSG which was pretty much a joke.

hax: There is very little 'traffic' on golf clubs/equipent. Let's face facts...20 years ago, we were all really kind of a bunch of club whores that would buy new irons, new drivers, new shafts, tinkering, trying new things because technology made HUGE leaps
Aug 17, 2019 5:59:48 GMT -7
hax: I started playing in 1997 and played with old wound balata golf balls, small headed metal Tailor-made drivers and woods and a set of Ping Zing 2 irons
Aug 17, 2019 6:00:35 GMT -7
hax: Today, I have an adjustable Great Big Bertha Epic that is GIGANTIC compared to the original 'toaster on a stick' the Ping TiSI, and a cup face titanium faced 3 wood that is physically larger than the driver I used to play.
Aug 17, 2019 6:01:36 GMT -7
hax: my irons have 95 gram graphite shafts, adjustable weights in the heads, etc., etc.
Aug 17, 2019 6:01:52 GMT -7
hax: There seemed to be 'more to talk about' in the way of technology. Also, trackman data has kind of eliminated the mystery from so much of the trial and error that we used to do.
Aug 17, 2019 6:02:40 GMT -7
hax: and there was no Youtube with 60 different reviews of a golf club...we had to go BUY ONE or demo it and the write things up.

hax: the world has changed..golf has changed...equipment has changed.

hax: You can never go home again.

Galgolfer: All true Hax. BTW, I still have an original "Toaster on a stick" and remember the first time I hit one in a golf shop. To this day I've never wanted a club more than I wanted that one! I think they were about $400.00 which was a lot back then.
Aug 17, 2019 7:35:35 GMT -7
Galgolfer: Additionally, I believe Greg M. was the one that coined the phrase toaster on a stick. One of the Nutz that used to play with him might be able to verify.

boomslang: I think you're right GG. But I've been wrong before.

Galgolfer: I am frequently wrong when trying to recall things from years ago!
