The finest set of blades ever produced were the Wilson FG-17 forged irons. I played these as a young lad when I started at the age of 7. Of course, this set was cut down by my father. As time progressed (and my game progressed) this particular iron set was too short for me. We had to find a used set and it just so happened that the head pro at our esteemed club had a brand new set in his garage. I played this set of irons through college. I have never experienced a better feeling iron or one that had better accuracy. The only downside to that specific set of irons is the lofts. Very weak by today's standards. I believe the PW was 51 degrees.
I have no doubt I could win my 6th club championship with that old set of clubs. You know, in some ways Tiger and I have a lot in common. We both have 5 club championships at the same club. Sure, his is at Augusta but I bet he doesn't have his own parking spot. It could be argued that I'm the greater champion.
I bet Tiny would agree, as would Bart and Tinsley.
Well, it's time for cards at the club followed by a rib eye steak, baked potato and light salad.
golfmonkey: First login. I learned alot on the GEA in the last 20 years and its good to see that the forum has survived. Also great to see that many of the great beasts that led the herd have survived the migration.
