Was going over the leaderboard and one of the things I like to do at all the majors (well, except the US Open which doesn't have a lifetime exemption) is check out some of the older past champions. Seemed to me like there were not nearly as many as I would have expected, certainly far fewer than you see at the Masters for example.
1980's - there are no champions from the 80's in the field. Compare that to the Masters where Mize, Langer and Lyle are still pegging it every year. Payne Stewart obviously passed away in 1999 (can't believe that was 20 years ago now), but even if he hadn't he would now be 62 and probably wouldn't have played. I clicked through the winners from the 80's and as near as I can tell the last champion from the 80's to have played in a PGA was Larry Nelson in 2011.
1990's - this is the one that shocked me. There are. . . . .2 winners from the 90's in the field, Daly and Tiger. That's it. Price, Azinger, Elk, Mark Brooks, DLII, Vijay - all of them passed on it. I can see it with the 1st 4, kind of surprised that DLII and Vijay didn't tee it up though.
2000's - the only guy missing from the list of 200's winners is David Toms.
Galgolfer: I am frequently wrong when trying to recall things from years ago!

nrjyzr: As for the Toaster of Death, there was even a haiku about it. Don't remember the haiku, unfortunately

hax: I had a Ping WRX Toaster on a stick...which was an AJ Tech Metal X shaft. I hit some of the longest drives of my life with that club.

Galgolfer: I agree with you Hax that Sensicore (or any vibration dampening) changes the way a club feels but if you've got pain they can really help.

bumblebees: I have Greg's Toaster on a stick. I bought it from him at Bethpage if I recall correctly. At the same time he 'leant' me the matching 3 wood which I still have as he died a couple of weeks later. If I ever make it out to another G tourney, I'll bring them.
